Celebrate National Invasive Species Awareness Week by joining the NWT Council on Invasive species, Pests, and Pathogens for a talk on invasive pathogens!
Joanna Wilson is the Wildlife Biologist (Species at Risk) at Government of the Northwest Territories. Her presentation will give an overview of white-nose syndrome, a fungal disease that has hit bat populations elsewhere in North America. We'll look at what it might mean if white-nose syndrome spreads to the NWT and how we can help our northern bats.
Naima Jutha is the Wildlife Veterinarian at Government of the Northwest Territories. Her presentation will give an overview of the chronic wasting disease (CWD), including clinical signs, transmission, disease history/ecology, species affected, current distribution, threats to caribou, and prevention measures for keeping NWT CWD-free.
